Aww, hon, I did my best. I read people's comments during those early eps, where they hoped that by season's end Maura's weirdness would have been linked to the shooting and I just knew that the shooting would never be bloody mentioned again. Because that's just the type of show this is. Jane's only allowed one traumatic back-story = Hoyt. Whereas Maura's is her mob daddy. Anything else and we might all get too confused, y'know?
The ending of this ep seemed to piss people off on a whole new level, to the extent that I wonder whether Tamaro will actually take note and perhaps recognise that a prolonged scene of torturing, tormenting and terrifying your two leads should not be resolved by a WTF?! Happy Pony Party.
And yes, there was that slightly sticky issue of Jane ostensibly assuming the role of judge, jury and executioner. Can't blame her for a second, but it would've been nice for the show to acknowledge that her actions there could have been considered morally or at least legally dubious...
As for the subtext resolution, maybe in season 15 when the sharks have all been jumped. Until then, I'd be quite happy to leave that to the fic writers ;-)
